Active Healing

For many years honey has been prized for its healing properties and sweet taste.  All honey types contain hydrogen peroxide, which is a natural antibiotic and antiseptic.  But the amount of hydrogen peroxide can vary widely from one honey to another.

Dr Peter Molan from the University of Waikato has been investigating the antibacterial properties of honey for more than 10 years.  He has made some significant discoveries and awarded a M.B.E for his work.  His work includes the discovery that Manuka honey has additional antibacterial properties known as non-peroxide activity.  The combination of hydrogen peroxide and the non-peroxide activity in Manuka honey has many health professionals now choosing to use Manuka honey in the treatment of wounds and infections.
